Not So Photogenic Dog

Here's my dog. She's adorable, and sometimes you can't find her eyes because of all her hair. She's mostly impossible to take a picture of because of the fact that she's black.

Adirondack Queen

High on energy and short on un-shredded toys, Lorna asked, "Why don't we take some pictures of me?
"Sure", I replied, "It is all about you, and of course I'm forever subservient to your demands. So why
don't you hop into that chair and pretend to be the unassuming, well-mannered dog that you're not?"
My comment being the impetus required, Lorna plopped into the chair and assumed her best poker face.
Seizing the moment, I quickly swapped my lens for a zoom and placed the unused 50mm at my feet. After five or six shots, I lowered the camera to compliment her on her sudden assumption of cultured regality.
It's funny, when I look at this picture now, and dwell upon the intensity of her gaze, that I didn't realize what would happen just a split second later....
As she bolted down the hill with my 50mm lens clutched tightly in her little jaws, she looked back just once, only to confirm that I was actively and enthusiastically involved in the chase.

Kitten in a Tree

4/27/2007 - Kitten in a Tree
While home for lunch Donna and I were walking around the yard, when I looked up to an old tree in our side yard. Inside a hollowed out tree limb I saw this little orange head peek out of the hole. I thought it was a squirrel, but to my surprise it was a kitten.
"How did a kitten get way up there?" we both asked.
The hole was too high for me to look in, and I'm 6' 4". We quickly grabbed a folding chair from the kitchen. This added stepped gave me enough reach to poke my camera up there to take a picture inside the hole.
As I moved my hand over the hole, out flew the momma cat like she was shot from a cannon. Unfortunately out flew with her was a tiny white kitten with black tipped years. The little one tumbled out of the hole and landed on the chair a good six feet below.
Both Donna and I gasped as we hoped the little one wasn't hurt.
To our relief the little one wasn't hurt. Just stunned and frightened.
So I reached up to the hole and gently placed the little one back with the siblings.
Judging from the pictures, we think there are at least three kittens up there. We also believe the little one may have been the runt of the litter.
Since we found this hiding place, we expect the momma cat to come back and move her kittens somewhere else.

This is our new 10 week old kitten named Quattro. The picture is a little fuzzy since this kitten doesn't stay still for long but you can see the he is about the size of our Comcast remote.
May 2012 Hunt Test at PVHRC
Platte Valley HRC had a great test on May 18 and 19. HRC tests specialize in realistic conditions; the weather on May 18th didn't disappoint. It rained in horizontal streaks for about 3 hours during the start of the sessions. Throughout the first day, nearly 70 dogs were run in Started, Seasoned, and Finished. As the day went on, we had better weather and we ended with a great social that evening.
