It seems that Logan has a broken a nose...in warm-ups before the game, a ball took a bad hop and caught him square between the eyes. Ironically, I was going to the car to grab my camera when the event happened only to return to see both teams' coaches tending to my bleeding son...not the Kodak moment I was going for. The bleeding finally stopped and although there was no ice in the concession stand, we were packed to go on a weekend fishing trip immediately following the game...I of of course had a cooler packed and iced down the fresh wound. It was obvious right away that he was in a bad place, but argued with me and the coach and claimed to be "fine". While sitting out the first two innings at the coach's insistance, I called a buddy who is an E.R. doc and he basically said, if the bleeding is stopped and doesn't reoccur and thinks he can play, go for it.

The coach put him in at short-stop for an inning...no blood so far...the swelling and discolorization increased...time to bat...he got walked...courtesy runner...still no new blood...an instant fan favorite after the bloody horror the crowd saw in warm-ups...we're winning the game, but in Middle School baseball, a pitcher can only go five innings max...we play seven inning games and coach needed a closer...he called on Logan and he delivered...he finished off the last three batters with two easy grounders and a final strike out. True heart from a fearless competitor.

I think the coach wanted to make an example of Logan to the other boys about "hanging in there when the going gets tough", but Logan took no convincing...he was defiant that he was fine and should get to play.

The saying under his hat writtenin black Sharpie says, "Every Pitch, Every Out"...he loves baseball...loves to win and hates to lose...I love to watch him win or lose.

Day 5: Afternoon Tea

We got almost fifteen paws of fresh snow today. The cave fell in on top of us, so we had to rebuild it.

After that, we unpacked our bindles and had a little afternoon tea. Somehow, we forgot our crystal vase, so we had to put the flowers in the cream pitcher... man, we're really roughing it out here...

(make sure you look at the photo big so you can see our nice rosebud china)

Help! what kind of plant is this?
